Video review: Self-toss and hit

Just so you don’t think all I ever do in these video reviews is bash other creators, here’s an example of something I came across that I really like. It’s just a coach talking about why he likes to have his players do self-toss hitting.

I agree with basically everything he says here. Self-toss hitting is something I specifically talked about in the 10 Beginner Volleyball Drills Every Coach Needs post for a lot of these reasons. It’s a great way for players to work things out. You can have them focus on any aspect of things. There’s the approach, the arm swing, ball contact, and timing.

Just make sure they focus only on one aspect. Maybe incorporate a constraint to encourage them in one direction or another as they explore.
