Use Ecological Dynamics on yourself as coach

Volleyball Coach

Ecological Dynamics is something that’s taken hold in volleyball coaching in the last number of years. If this is something you haven’t heard of, or would like to understand better, check out the videos on my post Talking skill acquisition in volleyball.

But what about applying EcoD – and more specifically the Constraints Led Approach (CLA) – to how we coach? I came across this Instagram reel on that very subject.

I wrote the post Can you coach without saying “Don’t”? some time ago. At the time I wasn’t aware of CLA. That’s exactly what I applied, though. There are definitely other ways you can use constraints to get to you find different ways to go about things in your coaching. If nothing else, this sort of thing makes you more aware of your coaching in the moment.

If you want to explore this even further, Loren Anderson takes a deeper look at coach development with EcoD principles in mind that I think is worth reading.
