Video Review: Tech to improve blocking

Here’s a variation on something I’ve seen before on a different scale. Middles are using video on a laptop to train reading the setter and making at least their initial move to block. A number of years ago I saw something similar from a pro team. The difference there was they used the big screen in an arena. This is obviously a much more accessible version of that.

While I think this can be a useful alternative when you don’t have live setters to work against, I do have one meaningful concern. Where’s the feedback? How do the players know if they’ve done well or not? Is there a way to show them reaction times or something related to that. Ultimately, that’s what we’re looking to improve, right?

Of course the researcher in me also wonders how effective this sort of thing truly is? How does it compare to working off a live setter? It would be interesting to find out.
