A reader asked me how to go about getting an assistant coaching job at the college level. Here is my advice for someone looking to break in.
Midwestern State had regular meeting just for the assistant coaches, which is an interesting arrangement I hadn't seen before.
We all, on some level or another, must prove ourselves as coaches - generally on and on-going basis. Who do we have to do that for and how?
Today I finally get to move on to my next challenge. The other day I was offered and accept a coaching position at Midwestern State University in Texas.
What are the key traits or skills or characteristics of a good coach? Here are my thoughts on at least some of the key ones.
Do great volleyball players make great volleyball coaches? Experience and some research suggest that's probably not the case.
Progress is being made on the job front. Though no official offer has been as yet, things are definitely moving in that direction.
I'm not in an active coaching position at the moment. What I am doing through work on Volleyball Coaching Wizards, though, is continuing my education.
