This is an entry in my volleyball coaching log for the 2020-21 season for both the men and women.

Here’s a final update for both the men’s and women’s teams for the 2020-21 school year.

Academics

The women had another strong semester in the classroom with a team GPA of about 3.5. That made them eligible for the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award. I put them in for it last week. This is only the third time a Medaille team has won the award (all by the women), with the other two coming back-to-back in 2004 and 2005. The men didn’t do as well – at least collectively. We’ll leave it at that.

At the conference level, a total of 7 Medaille volleyballers earned Academic All-Conference. Four of them were from the women’s team, with three from the men’s.

Recruiting

As I noted in the last men’s update, we’re into that time of year where we’re still looking to fill a couple of spots in the 2021 class, but now the 2022 class is full-on as well. That applies to both the men and the women. I’ve watches a whole lot of video, been to a tournament in Boston, and have done several zooms already. My assistant coach used a combination of University Athlete and streaming video to virtually attend the East Coast Championships.

Scheduling

The women’s schedule is just about finalized at this point. There’s a tournament we’re waiting to get a schedule for, but everything else is locked in. I have one more date to fill on the men’s side of things, then that will be done as well.

Fundraising and other stuff

We’re currently working on a fund-raising tournament in August to raise a bit of money for the program. That’s something I really want to get more active with in the year ahead. Likewise with community service. We didn’t accomplish much of anything on either regard this past season. Things are also in motion to put an alumnae match in the women’s calendar.

With that I’m going to wrap up the log for 2020-21. My next update will start 2021-22.
