I mentioned in my last post that the blog was within days of reaching 200,000 page views for the year. That milestone was indeed eclipsed quite quickly in early August. This year is by far the quickest getting there, which has happened every year since 2017. In fact, 2021 has already surpassed 2021 in total page views for the year. It’s not out of the realm of possibility that there’s a new record by the end of this month.
It’s worth noting that all this is despite a 7-day technical glitch in the middle of August. Something happened that broke some of the blog’s underlying code. People still visited the site, but the tracking didn’t register page views. As a result, most of them didn’t show up in the stats. That probably reduced the tally for the month by about 7000. Since the counted total came in at almost 36,000, without the glitch it would have put the total up over 40,000 for the first time ever.
To give you a point of reference, while August 2021 counted total was up over 50% from the prior year’s subpar performance, it was about 5% down from the all-time best back in 2018. The site is still running about 30% above it’s best prior viewership through August, though. It’s possible that the full-year record falls in September. Without that 7-day glitch it would probably be a sure thing.
