This posts starts a sequence on the subject of volleyball setter development and training. It focuses on identification of good setter prospects.
A lot of 6 v 6 play allowed me to take a long look at the two prospects for starting setter in the important weekend matches ahead.
Here's setting drill that's good for quick reps of both front and back sets requiring little space and which is suitable for training or pre-match warm-up.
Here is a ball-control drill aimed at getting maximum passing, setting and serving reps in a minimal amount of time. Good for warm-ups or regular training.
This drill is largely focused the libero taking the 2nd ball, but also generally works on out-of-system setting. It can be a good volleyball warm-up drill too.
This drill is a good one for working both on defensive ball control, but also on setting out-of-system balls. It can also be a good pre-match warm-up drill.
