One year ago today I posted my first entry on this intrepid little volleyball coaching blog. That seems like ages ago with everything that’s happened in the last twelve months!

My original thought with the site was to develop a resource for coaches in the South West of England, but the scope pretty quickly expanded to the point that the site now gets visitors and interest from all over the world, as this map indicates.

Visitors to CoachingVB.com through first year

In it’s first year of existence the site has had over 11,000 visitors and more than 33,000 page views. I haven’t done all that much to specifically promote the site, but it’s still managed to get the attention of folks in organizations like the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) and Volleyball England, and I’m now running into coaches at events who know me from this blog, which is pretty cool.

At this writing Coaching Volleyball has over 250 followers on Twitter, it’s inching toward 100 likes on Facebook, and I’m over 220 LinkedIn volleyball contacts. All of this was accomplished in basically just the last year. Not bad. Imagine what it would look like if I actually was aggressively promoting the site. I’m sure at some point I’ll make a more concerted effort to get the word out.

There are now over 300 posts on the blog. Here are the top ten most viewed thus far, aside from the home page:

  1. Volleyball Conditioning – A Sample Program
  2. Are your warm-ups wasting valuable time?
  3. Drill: Run Serve Receive
  4. Volleyball Set Diagram
  5. Game: Bingo-Bango-Bongo
  6. Planning your volleyball strength and conditioning training
  7. Scoring Serving and Passing Effectiveness
  8. Volleyball Try-Out Drill Ideas
  9. Volleyball Coaching Concept: Wave drills & games
  10. Common violations of defensive principles

As you’d expect, many of the posts on the above list were put up in the blog’s early days, giving readers more time to find them. It is interesting to see that the relatively recent defensive principles post made the list, though. I’d hate to think that all my best ideas were from last year. 🙂

Here’s hoping the next year is even better!

I do have a few ideas for making the site even more useful. You’ll have to stay tuned to find out what that will be, though.
